Linking Performance and Accountability
You teach fundamentals and either those fundamentals are performed in a contest or they aren’t.
This is the Game within the Game. Looking past the obvious scoreboard, leading scorer, etc. and taking note of the deeper, finer attributes that make an average athlete an above average player and a good athlete a great player.
There are linemen who get in the opponent’s way and there are linemen who drive their opponent until the whistle blows. There are quarterbacks who hit receivers when they are not challenged by a blitz and there are quarterbacks who hit receivers under duress. In both these examples, ask: which players do you want on your team?
