OMAHA, NE-- JC Cloney pitched a gem Monday night, shutting out the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers at TD Ameritrade Park and jumping to a 1-0 lead in a best of 3 College World Series finals. Scoring came early for the Cats with Cody Ramer leading off with a ground rule double and Ryan Aguilar bringing in the first run with a single to centerfield.
The Chants struggled squaring up much of anything Cloney delivered to the plate. Coastal threatened in the final frame with Anthony Marks getting on and Zach Remillard grinding out an infield hit, but to no avail as both were followed by a 4-6-3 DP and a K.
Zack Hopeck started on the hill for the Chants throwing 103 pitches, striking out 5, while walking three and giving up 5 hits and 2 earned runs. Hopeck threw 16 First Pitch Strikes and a total of 64 strikes leading to a Strike % of 62.
